History of Meldrim, Georgia

According to the research I have read of the little community my husband and I resided in there is much history here. December 20, 2008, my husband and I sit down to discussed where we wanted to move to and retire. Our first encounter to Georgia we moved to Brooklet, Georgia and that was not only a wrong decision but ended out to be a nightmare moved. We rented from a lady and her boyfriend who were very unkind and unstable. Two months renting from them we had to look for another home to rent which led us to Meldrim, Georgia. It is a small community where people care and watch out for each other. I now felt safe in my home. One day I decided if I am going to live and be part of this community I wanted to know nd educate myself the history back-ground of the community. I talked to a few of my neighbors and did a lot of research on Meldrim,Georgia.

Meldrim,Georgia came by a man who was a Judge. In 1912 Judge P.W. Meldrim bought the town for a few dollars. I was 12 years old amd lived in Altanta with my breother and parents when the Meldrim disaster happened.

We were fortunate enough to have a TV and living close to the TV station WSB my brother and I often saw the news people driving to and from the station and at least one would wave as he drove by.

The Meldrim accident was big news in Atlanta and when WSB reported the disaster we were watching the news as it was summer and school was out. I remember the newscaster, Ruth Kent, got teary eyed as she read the report on the air. I've always remembered her tender hearted reaction.
